Peter has over forty years of experience as a tradesman, contractor, and vocational instructor. He has been a State of California Building Inspector, certified by the California State Architect. A graduate of the University of California, San Diego, with honors, he settled in Covelo where he was a state-licensed vocational instructor, teaching basic carpentry to Native American men at the Covelo Indian Community Career Center. As the founder and general manager of a large general contracting firm, he has been instrumental in providing training and career opportunities for scores of young men over the years. He established a four-year carpentry apprenticeship training program approved by the California Department of Industrial Relations, Division of Apprenticeship Standards. This program turned out many journeymen and future contractors. On two separate occasions, apprentices from the program took second-place honors for the entire United States in competition against apprentices from many larger companies from all over the country.
Peter’s own experiences as a recovering alcoholic and passion for teaching trade skills to young men led him to build a program to bridge the gap between primary treatment and successful reintegration as a productive working member of the community.
